Question N00b question #2 :D

Hello again!

Thanks for all your comments on my first pic. I was rummaging around through my files and found this one. I was wondering if it is set up well or would it benefit from a crop...I don't believe I did anything to this pic yet but seeing as how its almost 2 yrs old I don't remember. This was taken on my Coolpix. Please let me know what would make this shot better. Thanks!

Angelique

What would make it better? Less over exposure on the tree trunk. For a subject like this, that might mean taking your shots at a different time of day as you explore the balance of foreground light and the brightness of the sky (which comes out a wonderfully rich blue here).

This is a lovely image. However, I do agree with Wulf that it is overexposed. I couldn't resist playing with it, and found that there was some detail left in the tree bark. This is what I came up with doing some dodging and burning.

Thanks Wulf and Jim!

Yeah I was to taken with the trees outside one day after work that I whipped out the camera and just walked along the apartment complex for about an hour or so until the sun started going down. I got a few shots that day that I just loved,...this was one of them. I didn't have any editing programs (still don't really) so I hadn't gotten to play with it much.

I'm impressed with how much detail Jim has clawed back. That's the kind of end result I would be aiming for although, if you can get closer to it in-camera you save a lot of painstaking post-processing time.
