Default Just One of Detroit's Mean Streets

I like this picture, but I think I have too much foreground in it. Can someone give me a critique of this shot?

Exposure: 1/400 sec
Aperture: 8.0

Let's move it to it's own thread rather than tailing on someone elses - it's free and keeps things simpler!

The photo doesn't have a particular subject and so lacks interest... although you could cast it as a study of desolation and apply some processing tweaks to make it work for that.

How do I move it to it's own thread. I'm kinda new at this stuff.

Trying to figure out exactly the focal point or what you are trying to capture. The colors are nice but I think there is just too much going on in the picture for my eye to settle on one point of interest. Maybe a tighter shot on the graffiti fence?

I've already done that. If you want to start a new thread, look for a "new thread" button in one of the forums rather than the "new reply" button on one of the existing threads.

Thanks,

Wulf

OK, thanks for doing that and for the comments. My intent with the photo was to illustrate the desolation and lack of activity. The photo is definitely too bright and clear to suggest desolation. Since I'm still rather new at this stuff--especially the processing area, what kind of processing tweaks would you suggest? I have Lightroom and Picasa.

The street, curb and fence all act as leading lines drawing the viewer into the frame.
There is alot of sky at the top which I don't think adds much to the composition.
You might try a b&w conversion and see if that sets the mood your going for.
One thing I do notice is the shot seems to be taken from eye level.
try playing around with different vantage point.
One of my favorites when applicable is to get down as low as possible when framing the picture.

I find the photo while somewhat interesting with the fence leading you to the buildings, still quite flat .

Thanks for the tip. Will fiddle around with the photo and see what I come up with. Still learning (a) the camera, (b) the techniques, and (c) the post production software! So much to learn, but I'mm plugging away.
