Default Too Much Negative Space

I took this image while on a steam boat riding on the Mississippi river.

I was wondering if there was too much dead space or if the sky adds to the picture?

I think that this is a very nice scrapbook image. I did take the liberty of straightening the horizon, adjusting the levels, applying an unsharp mask, and cropping to more of a panoramic perspective. Let me know what you think.

I think you are right about the horizon being even.

Thanks.

I like the panoramic version. Would have been great to line the tall building up with the high point of the arch, but if you on a cruise it's easy to miss & the captian ain't about to turn his boat around just for you is he

Maybe next time. We are going back in November so I may get another shot. I am not sure the wife and kids will want to take the cruise again but they have helicopter rides too.

I like the shot, especially the panny version. I don't think you could do much with the amount of sky as the location of the arch is in a strong thirds position, and you could't get rid of any sky without cropping the top of the arch. The sky has great cloud patterns, which provide interest for me, so I would say that it is good like it is! The only thing I thought about was if you could darken the sky a bit to make it contrast a little more with the arch. Just one guy's opinion.

I think negative space is important in this picture - it reinforces the hight of the arch. The clouds are interesting too - I would also suggest to darken them a bit.
