I took this shot over the weekend at Mesa Arch, Canyonlands Utah USA. It's a very famous arch to photograph at sunrise because the underside glows a brilliant red when captured just right. However, I took this shot while waiting for the sun to come up and quite frankly I like it. There has been very little post production done (mainly changing of the white balance and leveling horizons). One of the reasons I like the shot is because the sky in the top left hand corner still has a night time appearance while the arch itself acts like a window into the darkness showing the viewer that there is always light at the end of the tunnel (and I do enjoy Venus in there as well). My question is this, do other people see the same or are the two different "skies" competing in such a way that is distracting to the viewer? Any other additional comments or tips would greatly be appreciated. Thank you.
Camera: Canon Rebel Xs Shutter Speed: 20 seconds Aperture: f/3.5 ISO: 800 Focal Length: 18 mm Flash: Did not fire If you are interested in seeing other pictures of this arch (especially at sunrise) please feel free to check out my website where they are hosted at. Southern Utah |

I think the 2 different skies are really intriguing.
I like how they contrast with each other and I don't think it looks odd at all. The only minor thing that I noticed was the bit of brighter orange rock at the very bottom towards the middle. Toning it down or cropping it might help. It's not a deal breaker though. You've got a great shot there.
