City of Life

Here Is a shot I took a couple of weeks ago.

I love the way there is interest on a few different levels.

I can see that the sky is not interesting,

Does anyone have any other comments about the composition?

My eye keeps going to the area between the orange sign and the monorail on the left.

I don't think it really has a subject.

Try to simplify your shot by choosing a single subject or wait till everyone is gone. i would vote for the later then you can make your shot just about the architecture. As it stands right now the shot is very busy.

I like the busyness (not every photo needs to be smooth and clean) - It is representative of the city and the skytrain in particular with its jumble of concrete people and trains. The only issue for me is that it is a bit flat and static.

Since you are in Bangkok I presume you can go back. I would try it in twilight and try to get some movement in the trafic and people to add some dynamism. A shutter of 1/20 should do it.

I don't think the composition used in this shot is strong enough. The top right lines should be the most dominant in this shot, isn't it? Therefore, I'd prefer showing more of that lines, may be you can include more of that line.
On the other hand, the crowd also draw my point away from the main line. so try to reduce the amount of crowds included in the photo might help

Thanks for the thoughts guys. The points you made have given me some thoughts about what a photo really is.

For me, when I took this shot, it was about seeing the slogan, seeing the levels of activity, waiting until things were going on in as many places as possible. I felt that the two street sellers crossing the road was an important feature, and I just had to time it with the train coming round the bend.

It says "City of LIfe". To me, you are showing life. The cars on the bottom level with the street vendors, the people walking and the train. It was hard to look at at first until I looked at the slogan "City of LIfe" and got the message.

Thanks canyongirl. I guess there must be a weakness to the image if you found it "hard to look at at first" and bearing in mind other people's comments.

I will definitely go back there and see what I can come up with, as I do feel that there is potential for an excellent photo here...

I dont see a subject there as mentioned all above!
maybe consider the slogan as the main subject?!
