Smile Pistyll Rhaeadr Waterfall

Last Sunday I visited Pistyll Rhaeadr Waterfall in Powys in Wales. It was a great morning out and I really enjoyed the new challenge of photographing waterfalls.

Here is my favorite photograph of my trip.

Pistyll Rhaeadr Waterfall
(edited it with dcclarks suggestion)

I boosted the contrast a little bit, adjusted the hue and saturation to bring out the greens and sharpened it a little to bring out the detail.

I would like to know what you think of the composition and whether you think I have overdone the post processing?

Thanks all comments are much appreciated!

Personally, I love the rich colors. I think that it works well with waterfalls -- lush foliage and water go well together.

Compositionwise, I like the idea -- the waterfall flows from one corner, towards me, and out of the other corner. But, it feels just a little too "squeezed in" -- the uppermost part of the waterfall is so close to the edge of the frame, that it feels like it's going to pop OUT of the frame. The rest of the falls are very good. I might even crop off the top a bit, so that the parts of the waterfall which you can see, are more "inside" the frame with a little frame of foliage around them.

Thanks for your feedback and your suggestion dcclark. I have cropped a bit off the top so the waterfall doesn't look so 'squeezed in' and like the photo is going to pop out.

I really like the coloring, the contrast is great as you have done it. Won't change that at all.

As for the composition, I look at it and wonder that comes before it, my eye travels the picture from the bottom left to the top right and then wonders where the rest went. Depending if that is what you were looking for great job. Ususally I find waterfalls work best when the eye follows the flow of water so from top to bottom. It depends on what was above the image on how this could have been done.

Hope that makes sense.

Great composition. It looks very 3D. You can feel the depth from the front falls to the rear falls. I would agree that it appears "cut off". Maybe eliminate the little bit of falls showing in the upper right. Also it would be nice to see all of the spillage on the lower left.

Hello! This is a great image, I like your pp work, I wouldn't change it.
The only thing I would try to change is the crop. The part of the waterfall in far upper right corner looks distracting, so I made two crops.

First, I cut out the upper part of the waterfall and got the first one.
It still looked kind of squeezed in, so I cropped it even more and got the second version. It looks better to me. That's my opinion of course. Hope it helps!

Thanks navcom and I unfortunately cannot show anymore of the spilage on the lower left as I didnt cop it at all there.

Thanks alot milosh for both the info and the crops. I personally prefer the first cop mainly because It seems more focused and the tree trunk in the second crop is distracting.

Here is the crop I have settled upon, its basically the same as milosh first crop.
