Here goes nothing... Hope I put it in the right place to start off with.. it has obviously been processed but it is a landscape after all..

What do you think ? Does it work well ?

I really like it (and I guess that's what really matters) but would like to get other peoples view on it too.

Think I could have done anything different ? but bear in mind at the moment all I have is a point and shoot

Sweet image I like the processing you have done here. Was this cropped at all? I think cropping out the shadow in the foreground and some off the right side of the image will give the horse and tree more impact instead of being dead center and rather distant.

I really like the feel of this image, but I'm curious was this taken at dawn or dusk? As for improvement, I might try cropping off a bit more of the left side, to get the horse/tree more along the left third. And as murtasma suggested, possibly cropping off at least a little bit of the shadow at the bottom, but i wouldn't crop it all off. And I'd also crop off a little bit of the sky as well...so you have roughly three different equally sized sections...sky, tree line, ground. I'd also suggest desaturating the photo a bit, and maybe even add some grain...might enhance the whole desolate, almost eerie feeling I'm getting from the photo and liking.

Thanks for the kind comments It was taken at dawn and murtasma no it hasnt been cropped at all yet but both your ideas of cropping it a little to make it slightly off centre are good. i might have a little play with it and see what i can come up with and also something to try in the future on other photos.. i never really seem to crop much come to think about it.

It does have a eerie feel, doesnt it ? but somehow its a good feel, not a bad one i think anyway

Thanks again

Oh I completely agree, a very good 'eerie' feeling. And I highly recommend playing around with different crops on all your photos, it can entirely change the how one interprets your image...I personally rarely ever leave a photo uncropped, but then again that's mostly because I'm not very satisfied with the out of camera square-ish aspect ratio.

Default cropping

One other thing to remember when cropping is "Don't crop your original!" Work on a duplicate of the original and then save under a new name. That way you can try several crops of one picture and see what works for you without destroying the original. I often try five or six crops of one picture and see what can be evoked by different compositions.
