Default Peak District Sunrise

I haven't put a photo up for critique for a while so I though I offer this one up to the gods!

It was taken early morning in the Peak District in the UK. Does it give you that early morning feel? How about the composition, well balanced and inticing? Anything else?

Thanks in advance.

Sunrise Over Burbage Rocks

Camera: Olympus E-510
Exposure: 0.033 sec (1/30)
Aperture: f/11.0
Focal Length: 14 mm
ISO Speed: 100

Great photo I like the foreground interest. The composition is ok with it following the rule of thirds with the rocks on the right and the hills in the background. But one slight minor criticism the composition seems slightly unbalanced towards the right hand side making the left side seem slightly empty. And finally yes this photo does give you that early morning feel.

Thanks for sharing!

I do like this photo, well to be honest I like any picture of the peak district, the gritstone and the edges make me feel very homesick. You can't really go wrong. The Kalahari beautiful as it is doesn't have the drama of a peak morning. Did you adjust sky digitally or using a filter?
I'm only sorry you didn't get to capture a glory while you were up there they can really add a punch to any picture but the clouds were not in your favour. I agree with the previous post I would have probably pulled the camera right a bit more. Good job though.

Its two exposures. The sky being about two stops darker than the land. I do have an ND filter but most of the time I find it better to do it digitally, I'm no purist!

Bump the exposure up in the foreground and I think you'll have a nice shot :-)

It also seems to be quite out of focus - was this a problem in the original photo or did you only upload a 500x333 image to flickr?

I have another bracketed shot of the foreground which is 1 stop brighter. I might try with that shot and see if I like it better.

What browser are you using? The blur is probably caused by that. The file is 800 x 533 but has been browser resized down to 720x480 becuase of the really anoying ad box on the right of this forum.

You certainly pressed the wah wah pedal. Not my cup of tea but do you mind sharing what you did with everyone.

All I did was to check the white balance, and added a defog for a little sharpen:

For white balance:

Hover your mouse over a pure grey area on your image
Use the info palette and note down the red green and blue values of the grey area
average out the greys (r+g+b/3)
Open a curves adjustment layer and select the red channel
click anywhere on the curve line and then enter the original red value into the input box
Enter averaged value in the output box
Repeat last two steps for the green and blue channels
Click ok and you're done

For defog: (Local contrast enhancement)

Ctrl+J
Filter> sharpen> Unsharp Mask
Amount 10
Radius 50 pixels
Threshold 0
Flatten and save

Regards, Ken

Where did you take as your pure grey area? The white balance of the original was already pretty accurate to the scene as it was, between cloudy and daylight.
