Default My first night shot of neighborhood clubhouse.

Neighborhood Clubhouse. Katy, TX


This is our neighborhood clubhouse. Obviously shot at night. Would appreciate some feedback on the image and what can be done to improve the shot.

Settings Used:

30.0 sec @ f/11.0
ISO 400
Focal Pt. 44mm

Actually, I think you did a pretty good job if you were working on night photography. The stars on your lights add some visual interest and there is still some detail in the building..

I like it as a basic shot, but there isn't much which really sticks out to me and says "this is an artistic shot." That is OK, but it depends on your intent.

To that end, if you're looking for a more "wow" effect, you might consider getting up closer and focusing on some particularly interesting bits. I think that the wide view, showing the whole clubhouse, is what makes me think of a product shot. Seeing an individual window, or entryway, with its lights (and the very nice stars on the lights) is interesting, and could also get you interesting textures from the bushes, grass, or bricks.

As for technical details, I think that the grey sky (I assume it's light pollution?) doesn't add much. I'd just as soon see more grass in front, which is a little more interesting.
