Default Lighthouses of the Outer Banks, NC

Here is one of three pictures using Hatteras and Bodie lighthouses as the subject. I'd like comments on exposure, aperture, center of focus, setting, and any other observations. The two lighthouse only photos have had some individuals removed from them as it is challenging to get a shot with no people in it. The collage has only had masking applied to achieve blending.

Model: NIKON D80
ExposureTime: 1/500"
Aperture: F4.0
Flash: No Flash
ISO: 100
WhiteBalance: Auto
FocalLength: 70.0 mm

For me, technically this photo is fine (the lighthouse is ever so slightly crooked though). However the midday lighting makes it rather uninteresting to me. The same picture during sunset (or sunrise) could be fantastic in my opinion.

Also, I would try a different composition. Perhaps landscape and sticking the lighthouse around 1/3 to the left or right of the photo. That would put it into the landscape and create some tension.
