Default Montreal's new fountain

At the fountain courtyard in the newly inaugurated Quartier des Spectacles. I live up the road from this courtyard, and I have a view of it from my bedroom. You can even see my building in the background. There are so many photographic opportunities here, with the large fountain, and the many smaller fountains decorated with yellow and red lights.

I had my camera low on a tripod just in front of the fountain. I picked this perspective because I wanted to shoot against the sunset and the evening clouds. I also wanted to get a feel for downtown by including some high rise buildings in the background.

This was the farthest I could be from the fountain, as there were more mini fountains behind me. So I had to shoot at the widest angle possible to include all the elements I wanted. Unfortunately, I have to deal with the distortion now.

Quartier des Spectacles

Nikon D60 18mm f/16 1.5s ISO 200

Exposure and fill light increased, and some contrast brushed in around the reflection at the bottom.

Questions:

Is the composition balanced?
Is the distortion a big deal? I actually don't mind it too much. There is a bit of a tilt too, that makes the fountain feel more dynamic. When i try to fix the perspective, I lose some of the background, and the fountain looks less grand as i lose some feeling of scale.

Thanks and sorry for the long explanation.

The sky is gorgeous. I do find the bright light on the right distracting. The distortion and tilt don't bother me.

ive thought long and hard about cropping that out or cloning it out (would have taken forever). at the end of the day, i didnt wanna crop out my appartment building, and i was too lazy to to do some tedious clone stamp work :P

thanks for the feedback though, i do agree with you.

The sky is great, the street lamp needs to be toned down some, other than that nice work.
