Default Color Problems?

I took this a couple weekends ago up in Eastern Connecticut. It seems like the color isn't as vibrant as it should be. Is there a way to fix in in post processing or should I be doing a better job to start out with?

Unfortunetly, I don't have the stats on this picture... I just got my Rebel XS and I don't know how to find out how each picture was taken yet. Is that in the RAW format? I haven't tried that yet.

EDIT: Found it!

Shutter Speed: 1/320

It's both in the RAW and in the JPEG files. Search for a menu option or something that is labeled "Show EXIF" or "Show properties" or something along those lines.

In that case don't change a thing. I think you meant to put a negation in there somewhere.

To get better colours, start by not shooting the shadow side of an object, but the lit side. You can get more colour by post-processing, but you'll always get better result in PP when you start with a good photo.

I was a bit bothered by the sun being behind the subject, but I didn't really have to option to fly the balloon another direction. I bet the guys in that balloon got a great shot of me.

I'm not an expert post processor, more of a "minor adjuster", so I can recommend a few easy changes that may help. Using whatever your program equivalent is, try to "lighten shadows" and "darken highlights". Your sky will get bluer (as it gets darker), the shadows in the valley will come out, and your colors will pop a little as a result. Your aperture is small (great for this shot) and the ISO looks good, so these few minor adjustments should make a significant difference. Great keeper shot, good luck with the PP.
