Default God's own country

I posted this earlier but i guess since it was with 3 other photos i did not receive any comments.
The EXIF info is as follows:
Shutter speed: 1/1600s
Aperture: f/4.5
ISO:100
Focal length: 78mm
I use a Sony DSC H7.Its a hybrid camera where many of the DSLR functions are available but with restrictions

I want to know how the compositon of the pic is.I cropped the image to put the boatsman on the left end of the pic.I am dying to get my hand on a DSLR but need the confidence first to know whether wht i am doing is ok or not.

I like it!

Love the colour, the crop, the boatsman and the tonal ranges amongst the palm trees...well done!

Im hoping that my positive feedback helps your confidence out a little too....I think you have the right idea, so get out there with a DSLR! The fact that you are THINKING about your photos, whether it be as you are taking them, or in post, suggests that you are well on your way to being creative, without restrictions

Default Buy that DSLR

I had exactly the same camera as you. I love the closeups I have got of my kids with it, but was always disappointed with any landscapes I took. Last month, I finally took the plunge and bought a Nikon D90 with a 16-85 VR lens.

What a difference! Bright clear landscapes with crisp detail...

There is absolutely no comparison between the 'hybrid' and the real thing...

Its truly GOD's own country. Very Nice shot. Will be better if U had cropped out the sky? I don't know but just give a try. It looks to me ( I am no expert also) that the bright color of the sky is taking my eyes out of the picture ( i.e. point of focus the boatsman) Also sky is not showing any details. Or u can make the sky a little darker in Post processing software so that it is not distracting.

Love this photo. I would leave the sky in, but try giving it a little more blue. Be careful if you try to darken the sky, too much and it could make it look as if the sky is cloudy, but the light in the rest of the photo makes it obvious that it is sunny. I am glad you did not put the boat in the center or on the right of the photo. Having the boat on the left is perfect, it pulls you in and makes it easy to imagine being in the boat. If the boat were on the right side, it would give a feeling of 'the ride is over, get out of the boat.' There is movement and the boat is well balanced by the sunlight on the sand on the right side of the photo. Keep up the good work.

my dissapointment in the cameraq is the auto focus part.It makes me feel that the machine is the master and i am the puppet, taking tht into focus what it wants me to focus.Thats why i never took much closeups with this. But i can say for landscapes i like this camera.I'll post a few buildings, you'll see what i mean.It goes quite wide.

But yes DSLR is on the list.Right now i'm in research mode.
