Default Night at the River...

I'm new to photography so I'm still learning a lot, and trying to improve. I took this over the weekend around midnight.

Canon Rebel Xsi
kit lens at 24mm
shot in JPEG
f8
30 second exposure time
ISO 400
UV filter
*completey unedited*

what can i do to improve this shot? either with camera or in photoshop elements 7.0

Nice subject.

I find the yellow tinge through the image a little "annoying" which maybe unfair of me to point out as I am not to know of what lighting conditions you had to play with. On the other hand it may just be me

I would have perhaps left the ISO at 100 when taking this shot and perhaps fiddled with my white balance a bit in post processing...unless you like the yellowness. Next time you are out at dusk/night...try a few different things and see what results you get. Nice composition though

Default How's this?

I cropped out a lot of the sky.

Increased the contrast to +35 on Photoshop CS-3.

I selected tha portion of the pier at the left and reduced the brightness.

the bit of yellow tint you're seeing is from the horrible lighting that's just off to the right. the park area is fully lit by these large, bright yellow lights. it killed a whole bunch of otherwise very nice shots. in the few days that i've been reading here, i've learned quite a few things to get shots like these to turn out differently so i intend to go back again soon with some different outcomes thanks for the input!
