Default Light Rising

I took this on a recent trip to the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. It is the sunrise on a cloudy, foggy day on top of Clingman's Dome.

This is not a long exposure as I forgot my tripod in the other van, but it came out fairly decent I think. My concerns are composition and idea. Is there anything that sets it apart from the other gazillion sunrise pictures or anything eye-catching about it??

Thanks a bunch!!

Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi
Exposure: 0.008 sec (1/125)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 55 mm
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
ISO Speed: 100

Love the sun in the sky, the mist and the slight contrast of the mountains.
I'm not so sure I love the tree. Its so dark, intense and crips that it just doesnt seem to go with the rest. The rest of it is pretty much pastels and very soft, the tree just seems to be a contradiction

I agree with windrider.

The colours and soft tones on those hillsides are awesome. The tree is very "in your face".

For some reason, the tree doesn't bother me.

But, this photo does seem unbalanced, with both the tree and the sun on the left side of the frame. I know that cropping the photo a bit to the right of the tree would turn this into a very different photo, but it would then be better balanced. And I wonder if it would also solve this issues expressed above?

It's a beautiful setting. We go to western North Carolina during the summer. We need to make a trip over to Clingman's Dome some time soon. It looks well worth the effort.
