I think that's a really lovely view, and can imagine being there. For me, in taking photos, that feel is the most important thing.
As far as composition - I would consider raising the horizon in the view a bit, since there isn't much to see there. I also feel like it's a bit overexposed. Early morning is still a bit dark, so it's ok if your shot is a little dark and shadowy, too. Your sky is just too blown out for me in the exposure there. |

You should include EXIF data and specific question. Read more in critique rules.
On technical stuff... try to have horisont on the line of thirds, and that ship which is the subject on the image should also be on the intersection of those lines... Colours are great...

I respectfully differ ... this is a morning exposure. If one plays with the exposure then one turns it into an ambiguous "is this morning or evening?" exposure. |

Right. i agree. the waterline should be higher. but i like it the way it is too. I also agree on the overexposed part and if you exposed it a bit less, the results would have been much better. Btw, i like the shadow of the rocks, good job there. also, subjects are best placed on the points when the line of thrids intersect each other. unless you fill the frame that is. well if you messed around with white balance, you could have taken a picture of sunrise, but looked like sunset. but then really, get the exposure right and you will be fine

I like the image and the thoughts behind it. I would have tried getting closer to the ground and even moving further into the shallow parts of the ocean. I would also under expose my image to see how the colors of that beautiful sky would alter the overal scheme. Just bracket them if you have the time. Hope this helps!

Personally i feel the top right corner is too overexposed, however this does add impact on the shot.
You mentioned about placing the subject in the centre of the frame, the over-exposure leads my eyes away. I think if the exposure was balanced, not such a variance between the highlights and shadows this image would have more depth!
