Default First Panorama Attempt

I have been trying to do panorama photos lately, and I felt this one was the best so far. I used Panorama Maker 4 to create this photo, and then I exported it to Lightroom to adjust the image.. What do you think about the composition and general tonality/ colours? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. You may want to view it on my Flickr as the medium size is somewhat small.

ISO 400/ 20mm/ f16/ 1/200sec

Unfortunately I must run shortly, so I'm going to be brief:

The colors look a bit blah. They are very grey (and the sky looks solidly cloudy). I bet this would look a lot better at sunrise or sunset.

The composition is fine (I like the line leading in, and then curving around with the beach), but overall my question is: what is this a photo of? It looks like you don't really have a clear subject, but perhaps several competing lines (the cement/road, the beach, and the rocks in the foreground).

That's my 2 cents -- value decreasing daily!

Thanks for the feedback. The beach area was the subject, although it is not large in the photo because of the lens I used. It was quite overcast that day, and this most likely lended to the somewhat muted colours. I thought about increasing vibrance and saturation, but I did not want it to look too bright as it was not a sunny day. I may go back and play a bit with those areas I mentioned. I will wait and see what others think as well before I do, though. Thanks again for the input.

I think you could play around with some curves adjustments. I do like the composition with the opposing curves of the path, shoreline, and rocks. My only quibble is that the horizon looks a little tilted, although that may just be the trees.

I decided to play with the tone adjustment, vibrance, and saturation on this one. I am trying to post a link to the revised version as i am not supposed to post twice in one thread within 24 hours:

2nd beach panorama 2 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Hopefully this link works!

I think the composition is good and your second version looks much better than the first after brightening things up.

Overall the exposure is nice and even throughout the image, sometimes you can get different images in the pano being exposed differently if you are not careful but i see no evidence of this.

I would try to bring out the contrast in the clouds. They look like they have a nice texture to them.

Could you post/make available a higher resolution version? 500px wide is a little tiny for a panorama.

You should be able to look at the link I added in my last post to see the larger revised version.

That link does not provide us with the "all sizes" option, i think because you have your flickr settings set to not allow downloads of your images.

The hardest thing about panoramas is looking for suitable subjects... one has to find a subject interesting enough that can fill the whole long frame. This scene is not it. Its too uniform in my opinion. But keep shooting!
