Default London Eye Capsules

Took this shot in London recently, I like the way the pods were set against the blue sky.

What do you think? Do you think there is enough detail in the shot or should I have gone the other way and been more abstract? What about the positioning within the frame?

Finally what do you think of the PP?

Capsules

Camera: Olympus E-510
Exposure: 1/200
Aperture: f/10.0
Focal Length: 42 mm
ISO Speed: 100

Thanks

I like the idea of the picture. The pods are really neat. I find the dark edges of the photo a bit distracting though. You are right, it should have been a bit more abstract or more detailed. What you have is a middle ground and for me something seems to be lacking. And I am not sure if it is just me, but it feels like the eye is tipping too the left too much.

I am new to critiquing, so I hope this was a bit helpful.

I think the idea of the shot is good, but personally I feel that it is too dark overall. The blue of the sky does not look quite right. Actually, it looks like some of my skies do after I have HDR'd them - is that what you have done here?
I would bring the brightness of the whole shot up and then see where you can go from there. I dont know if its the right thing to do or not but I tend to adjust my shots until the histogram reaches both the left and right extremes but still without clipping.
Hope this helps

I saw an image somewhat similar to this recently. But it was created with that "Orton Effect" feel to it. Looked pretty neat. Just an idea

Wheel composition looks great, but I would agree that the dark corners are distracting. Doesn't look like vignetting. Was it post-processing?

It looks great. I have made it a point to get a picture of structure like this. The way I do it is not the normal way straight on. I lay down next to the structure as close to the base as I can and shoot it straight up. I have shot the Washington Monument, the Space Needle in Seattle and Spaceship Earth at EPCOT Center. It make for some interesting shots. If anyone wants to see them let me know. I will see if I can find all of them.

I really not a fan of the orton effect. Just makes things blurry as far as I can see. Maybe if I have some free time I might do it but probably not. Afterall I can't do it in Lightroom and I hate to leave Lightroom! Thanks for the sugestion.

The dark corners are a post crop vignette applied in Lightroom. I'm not 100% sure what mechansim it uses for creating the vignette but I do know its different from the lens correction vignette which is more like true vignette from the lens.

Due to the beauty that is Lightroom its only a 2 minute job to change it so I'll have a go and see what I think. If I like it I may post it here.

I think reducing or eliminating the vignetting will help. It competes for attention with your center of interest.

Isn't Lightroom wonderful? Of all the software I've ever used in my lifetime (including some pretty high-buck engineering software), LR is by far the coolest thing.

I like the idea of the shot.

I would remove the vignette, doesnt assist the photo as there is only one thing to focus on.

I would remove that and push the blue saturation for a bit more punch and see how it looks
