Default Stone Olive - Critique Needed.

Hi Guys

I posted this in another section on the forum, but I would like to have it critiqued.

Although I like this pic, a couple of my mates have given me an indication that the image is a little flat.

The Stone Olive is the simple description of the tree, they tend to grow into rocks, cracking them open as they grow, thus I was attempting to capture the tree growing into the rock.

Shooting
- Although I left the WB on auto, I was happy that it was doing what I wanted.
- I think I could have opened the F-stop right down, but didn't, my mistake.
- It was getting a little late, the ISO at 400 was good.

Composition
- Does the image tell the story?
- Does the image lead you somewhere?
- What could I have done better?

Its a bit random without being truely abstract.

This creates an issue that there is no subject of the photo, nothing that draws the eye into the shot or makes you stand back and go wow. The golden light on the trunk is really nice but unfortunately its not enough to make the shot.

Technically you did everthing right. 1/25 is about as low as your want to handhold so ISO 400 was a good shout.

To get it better maybe focus in on an particular element and isolate it against the blue sky or maybe step back for a wider view. You certainly picked the right time of day to take the shot.
