Default Bright daylight

Hi Everybody,

This is my first post.

This was also my first photo experiment.

Manual mode
Exposure : 1/125s
f/5.3
ISo 100
Metering:Pattern
no flash
Focal Length 70mm
White Balance Auto
Quality fine (original image 6.1mb)

I do feel that this is not a good shot. overexposed perhaps. lots of grain. even in original file when i zoom into it the leaves are not that clear. maybe it could be due to some vibration............

does metering method has any impact on this setting?
should we increase ISO to improve the shake? but its already broad daylight....should we increase ISO and increase apperture speed to get in more light?

========== pls also tell me about software to reduce the picture dimensions and megabytes without compromising on quality=========

thanks for the valuable feedback.

Hello and welcome to DPS, hope you will enjoy what you discover and learn here.

For you picture, i think it is not overexposed but the light seems a bit harsh. if possible try to shoot landscape early morning or at sunset to get more vibrant colors and great lighting. i also see you have a polarising filter that could have been used to make the colors pop a bit more and expose some details. You could also do some PP to increase saturation and sharpness.

For the leafs not sharp enough ( cannot see on this small picture ) I think it is because of the large aperture you are using and not shake. Try using F11 or F 16 and see the results. You will have a deeper DOF.

I don't think the metering mode would do any effect on this particular shot since everything is exposed the same. it would matter if you tryed to meter to have the main subject exposed right with very contrasting lighting.

I hope i helped out a bit

Any software will reduce you dimensions without loosing quality, you have more than enough megapixels. The problem is when you try to make poster size picture that you may loose quality.

If you are looking for free PPsoftware check out GIMP.

Hi, Imran - Here are some of my thoughts.

1) I have a D90, and get better results if I don't turn the ISO lower than 200. The default is ISO 200, and I only go lower if I need to get a slower shutter speed.

2) The photo does seem a bit too bright to me. Not much, though.

3) For landscapes, generally shooting at f/8, f/11 or maybe just a bit higher will give a larger (deeper) depth of field. So, I wouldn't go more wide open than f /5.3

4) Were you using a filter of some type? 1/125 seems a bit slow for shooting in full sun at f/5.3.

5) Not sure what you mean about metering. Can you ask in a different way?

6) And, finally, I don't see much vibration shake here. But it could just be me.

Hope this helps. Feel free to keep asking if you have more questions.

Hope you don't mind but this is what I imagined it looking like. I just darkened the blacks a little, sharpened it a little and upped the saturation.
