Default Death of a Star

Not sure if this is really a landscape photo, but I thought I'd try it here first. Taken at the beautiful Oregon Coast last week. Just wanted your general thoughts about composition, angle, coloring, and anything else you think is pertinent to the discussion.

EXIF:
Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi
Exposure: 0.125 sec (1/8)
Aperture: f/10.0
Focal Length: 45 mm

Nice photo EOBeav! I love the lighting, texture, and DOF of this composition.

My preference would be to see the starfish a little more from the top. Other than that, can't think of anything else to suggest! Great job!!

I agree with andrewlo13, the star could look better if seen from a higher angle, if you could see a bit more of it.

Also, I don't know if I'm digging the top left corner, I find the white a bit distracting from the shot, and I'd like to see a version of the shot with no sky. Or maybe if the sky wasn't so blown out?

I love the texture and angle of the shot. The lighting is great too. I would try a closer crop to get rid of the blown out sky.

great shot, nice lighting and tone on the sand, this looks great! But i have to say that i agree with the sentiment that the sky in the top left is distracting. maybe you could crop a bit of it out, and then photoshop the rest out. Not really sure what you could do there.

Actually, I'm going to disagree with everyone about the little bit of sky. I think the little bit of sky helps let us know the angle at which the picture was taken. Like the starfish, it's a reference point.

If your photo were only sand, we also wouldn't get the feeling that we're looking on the horizon, metaphorically into eternity.

I like the sky corner!

That white triangle in top left corner needs to go-The viewer's eye always goes to the lightest part of the image, I have dealt with this and adjusted contrast to further emphasize starfish: Ken

Thanks everybody for the comments.

Ken: Thanks for trying, but to my eyes, the photoshopped sand is more distracting than the sky it's trying to cover up. It looks a bit artificial and more of a slope upward. Thanks, though!
