Default Twisted Tree by Riverside

Hi all,

Just getting back into photography after many years...

I took this photo whilst walking in the lake district, just had to take the picture, the tree was begging me to!

Anyways, I'd like to get some advice on the composition and what I could have done to improve the overall sharpness of the image and the colour of the hills in the background.

EXIF DATA
Camera : Nikon D60
Lens : 18-55 (kit lens)
Exposure time: 1/160
Focal Length : 45
Aperture : f/9
ISO: 200

Look forward to hearing your comments.

Regards,

Alastair

As far as sharpness, I'll leave that to the experts. As far as composition and color I really like it. If the background hills really bother you maybe you could crop them out but to me, I don't think it's all that distracting. That's just a new guy's opinion though.

First, welcome to DPS!

Second -- about sharpness -- I really can't tell at this size. The forum HEAVILY compresses images -- you may need to post a link to flickr, or some larger size.

Third -- colors. Wow, those are intense. I wolud call them "unrealistic", sort of like they're in a children's picture book. On the one hand, I kind of like the effect. On the other, I feel like you have overdone it. I think that the only way to decide between these two options is to know what YOU intended. Going "over the top" is a very valid artistic option -- but did you want that, or did you just bump the saturation a lot?

Must agree with dcclark on the picture being a bit over-processed. However, that is the tastefor some so go with what you like..

I love the colors! But as everyone says, it does look a little fake. Nice picture though.

i think the pic blured. and the colors are too much. Or was it intentional, I dont know. But the tree does stand out.
