Default Chicago Lighthouse

I'm pretty new to the site and hope I get this first post gets posted correctly.

I really like this shot I took a couple weeks ago but something seems like it is missing to me and I can't figure out what--possibly the colors, it was very overcast that day.

I would appreciate any feedback.

Well, the main subject is interesting enough, but to be a really excellent image, I feel it needs a compelling foreground and background. Maybe there was nothing but water in the foreground, so more of that wouldn't help, but perhaps another day with some interesting sky would be enough. It does seem to be a bit dull color- wise.

A little post to remove the haziness will help out...

Thanks for the feedback. I think a combination of the two ideas should do the trick.

Or, you can try it in black and white for a completely different feel like this.

I took the liberty of changing you image to show you. If you want I can take it down. Just ask.

I like the B&W more since the sky looks a little bit bland in the colored version. BUt the subject is interesting and beautiful in both.

After seeing the B&W version I had the idea of a selective color version, so here's my 2 cents worth ( a quick masking in photoshop).......

Nice picture and before scanning down thru the comments my first thought was a b&w conversion and see gdowden had the same idea and done a great job with it.
I would try, if possible, to include more water in the foreground leading up to the lighthouse. Even being able to get down low to the water and compose your shot might be a neat effect.
