Default Father,son and the beach

I took this photo when I went to Cebu, Philippines. I like this picture particularly because of how the subjects seem so isolated, and how they seem to bond. Plus the fact that there is nothing else in the scene but them. This beach is located at the Shangri-La resort. Probably one of the best hotels/resorts here in the country. I would just like to ask about the composition and color. Is there a lot of negative space on the right of the picture? Other C&C's are very much welcome. Thank you!

Overall, I think the exposure is on. I think you are right about having too much space to the right. I would find the center spot between the father/son and put that spot right at the bottom-left 1/3 spot (rule of thirds). That will put the center of interest more on the people and fix your issue. Also, the many boats in the water kind of detract from the isolated feeling you are trying to create. But we understand...you work with what you can get. Too bad you couldn't just scream "get out of the way"!

Navcom thanks for your comment. I agree that I should have cropped the image so that the subjects would be on the lower left 1/3. I also thought of removing the boats in photoshop but now I can't remember why I didn't do it. Probably I don't want to change too much of the original scene heheh. I appreciate your comment. Thank you.

A little crop on the bottom to draw the father in son more into the left corner and some of the right would give the image more impact and keep the eye trained on the main subject.

I think the boats are a wonderful element and what's off in the photo is all on the right.

What about a vertical crop, leaving three boats in the shot? It's well composed and looks great to me.

Hi AoxoA, I have tried your suggestion. I am just not sure if I did the vertical cropping properly. I left more space on the left of the subjects, since I want to put the subject in the right part of the frame. Did it work? Thank you!

Thank you Mike for your suggestion. I have tried it also. Did I do it just like what you said? I hope you don't mind I just attached a copy of the picture since I wasn't able to upload it to Flickr.

THank you!
