I took this shot of n.y.c. and the buildings are not vertical ...I was level and set the shot up on the three buildings in the middle but it seems the buildings on the right are vertical and it degrades rapidly as you move left...any i9deas what i did wrong???

This is a really common error when you're shooting panos--you tend to drift a little between shots--checking the horizon against your AF points in the viewfinder can sometimes help, as can using a spirit level in the hotshoe. Another alternative is to "overshoot"--get more coverage than you think you need, shoot the member images in portrait mode or maybe an additional row of coverage, so that you have enough "image real estate" to rotate and crop post-stitching.

Like inkista said...overshoot, take more pictures for the panorama, overlapping more than you think in the field is necessary, you'll thank yourself when you get back home for post processing. As is the case with your image, I can distinctly see the three separate images...they appear to have different exposure settings, the outside two appear darker than the middle shot. You aren't shooting these photos more than a couple seconds or so apart, so its recommended to use the same exposure settings for every shot in the pano.
Having said that, it doesn't look like there's anything all that wrong with this pano, I think you just need to rotate it a bit so the horizon is level. I'd also apply an S-curve to increase the contrast and pump up the saturation a bit...its looking a little drab. Nice composition though, I like the inclusion of the walkway on the left...makes the photo more than just a cityscape pano. |

Thank you for the feedback, as far as retouching the photo I haven't but was just wondering about why the buildings tilted, as you can tell I'm rather new at photography... by the way there are 9 photos being used for this pano.

As far as I can tell without overlaying a grid, the buildings on the right don't appear to be any more level than the ones on the left...try rotating the image a bit and everything should look level.
9 photos, well you fooled me there, but nonetheless, I can spot at least 2 different seams in your pano. Last edited by coldphoenix; 06-08-2009 at 04:24 AM. |
