Default chicago lake view

hello everyone, i'm brand brand new here and this is my very first post.
i shot this today by the lake in chicago. im trying to get this composition thing down. i figured i would post a shot here and see what others thought about it.

Camera: canon 50d
Exposure: 1/640
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 80mm
ISO Speed: 100

Welcome to DPS! You got a nice thing going there but I gotta ask what you're trying to focus here.

My eyes seems to be looking for a resting place in the photo, is it the first boat? or the other ones? or the cityscape? or the lake? and you might want to take out the cluster of leaves that are on the left side...

i wanted the boats and water in focus and the city scape just a touch out of focus.

I think you have a nice shot here but mabe a bit bussy as MacroDJ did mention there is a lot to see and our eyes have a hard time looking at just one thing.

I love Chicago, it has a lot of good photo oportunity and i am looking forward to see more of your shots.

love the lines the boats make Fab! I think this would be a nice shot at night with the lights on.

Very nice picture. I am also new on here, and after reading the other posts it makes more sense to me now about a "busy" photo. Only thing I would suggest is the sky is to bright for me. Like I said I am new so I am not to sure what you would do yet to correct that, but other than that its a great picture.
