Default Abandoned Rail

I was crossing over an abandoned rail and saw part of the rail cast in the tree shades. Thought it might be interesting for a pic, so I parked and snapped couple pics of it.

This is the only one that came out decent. I converted to B&W. What do you think?

Nice composition. I like the fact that you converted it to BW. One thing that would improve it is to move the focus into the image just a bit. It would be more natural if the focus plane were about 1/3 into the image. This would also draw the viewer into the image and down the track more.

Good job!

Ah! Yes! I should've applied that 1/3rd rule on the focal point!

What he said.

Also I'd have dropped the camera a little and shot from lower down for a different take on things.

I find it always pays to drop the camera in shots like this as it brings the viewer closer to the subject and lends a totally different and more intimate, almost, feel to the shot.

Very nice work. Good advice above and can't really think of anything else to add at this time.
As morts mentioned, getting down low can sometimes create amazing pictures. It is one of my favorite vantage points when applicable.

I should go back and try again shooting lower with the suggested focal point!

Here are the info from the top portion of flickr:

Exposure: 1/4000 sec
Aperture: f/2.8
Focal Length: 51 mm
Exposure: +0.90
ISO Speed: 125
Exposure Bias: -2 EV
Flash: Off
