Coloring? I really like the composition here, but maybe since the river seems to be flowing from left to right it might have been a little stronger if you had shifted the falls more to the left rather than the right half of the photo. I wonder if this might have been a better option for a portrait orientation. I would love to see some more room above the canyon above the falls and maybe a little more river below.

Bottom line: This is a nice shot. Good work.

It reminds me of the fantastic artwork that Alan Lee has created around the Lord of the Rings stories; quite dark but very detailed and dramatic. Since the foreground is so dark, I would probably crop in closer, perhaps for a square format (with, as ebeard suggests, the waterfall rolling from left to right across the frame). If I was Alan Lee, I probably would have painted it with the cliffs soaring up on either side and some kind of insanely defensible looking tower perched at the pinnacle!

Thanks to both of you for your comments. This shot was a bit tricky in that there was a late afternoon sun just directly behind the opening above the falls. That's why the walls are so dark but the opening is bright to the point of blowing out. I kept trying to get a good shot of this falls with the upper falls right behind it, but the contrast in light was just too great. At least for my level of expertise.

I would like to get back there in the morning, with the sun coming from behind me, in order to properly illuminate the cliffs here and be able to include the falls behind it. I may get a chance to do so later on in the week. If so, I'll definitely be posting here.

Wulf: If I had that kind of talent, I probably wouldn't be posting here. :-) That said, that was a great description!

I love the shot. It looks incredible. I actually like the way the coloring is implemented. I'm not an expert, but I know when I like something. Good job.

What lense did you use?
