Red face Depth of Field Too Shallow?

I took this on a walk yesterday at a nature center near me. It was a little late in the day toget good shadows, but my question is, is the depth of field to shallow? I kind of like it this way, but it does seem like there could be more of the fence in focus.

From My Photography

Model: NIKON D60
ISO: 200
Exposure: 1/80 sec
Aperture: 5.6
Focal Length: 82mm
Flash Used: No

I personally like the shallow look.
But you probably could have gone just a bit deeper.

nice shot.

Thanks for the feedback. Think and f8 would be too much? I guess I might have to go back and try again and see! LOL

Personally I'd like to see a bit more DOF.

Since it's digital it costs you nothing more to take extra shots. Adjust the DOF one step at a time taking a shot with each. Then see which you like best.

I think it just depends...I would like to see a bit more depth of field because that would draw the eye a little deeper into the photograph. There's a lot of interest in the way the fence zig-zags that could be drawn out more. However, I also like the moss on the rail, so it kind of depends on what you're going for. The moss, to me, shows age as does the way the fence no longer stands straight, but leans forward and back. If it's the moss on the rail you're going for, a tighter crop would keep the eye there instead of wandering down the line of the fence. I like both takes on the photo.

I agree with freezeframe03. You're shooting digital. It costs little or nothing. Expand your horizons and take several shots with varying depths of field while you are there! Another thing I often do, when it looks like it might make some sense, is if I take the picture in the horizontal, then I might just rotate the camera and take it in vertical. Sometimes I find the altered perspective is a surprise that really makes the picture work.

Thank you everyone for the feedback, it is a real help! Since I am relatively new to photography, I am constantly trying to remember all the things I need to know when I am out shooting. I will add varying my DoF to the list. Eventually I hope all this comes naturally.

Default Sitting on the fence

I think it is a nice photo, lots of character. Did taking a photo to teh left or right of the fence to get more of an angle?

Maybe get a low view point?

Still nice photo I like it

i like the DOF just like this.
however, i agree with the PP's. 9/10 i take the same shot a MINIMUM of 3 times with different aperatures. usually its more like 5-10 shots with different aperatures and then i upload them and see which i like best.
