Personally i would pay to get a shot like that.
I love the dramatic sky and the rock formation. The colors are great. I really love the fisherman`s silhouette. Cuting the shot in half is out of normal composition rules but on this shot i would not see it any other way. I do not find the rock on the right side too distracting but if you really don`t like, it can easily be croped out without loosing anything interesting on the shot.

Nice shot. Great composition and very intriguing. I agree that the rock area is a bit distracting. It takes away from some of the "symmetry". If the fisherman were off to the left more, the rock area would work.
Great compositional concept!

welcome to dps, angus.....
![]() a very powerful image for your first posting.....beautiful in it's depth of field and dramatic lighting......i think the rock is one of the better parts of the frame with it's shadow and light.....so, for me.....it's not distracting....it's the show..... as you can see, i did resize your image to 800ppi on the longest side.....this is an across site rule, so i would like you to take a few minutes to review the faq's for this site and reccommend for your first few postings that you check the rules for the particular section that your posting in..... thanks peeper |

What a true piece of art! I really love this capture!
The sky is active and beautiful, the texture and formation of the rocks is amazing, the reflection in the small pool of water is intriguing and I love the bright green moss in the foreground. Lots of different subjects in this scene yet they all come together very nicely. Congratulations on a extrememly good photograph!!

Like has already been said this is a beautiful shot and something many photographers would aspire to. You asked for help of the final tweaks particularly around the rock. There is almost a 50/50 split from other comments as to keep it/change it - perceptions will always differ hey...
I wonder what it would look like if you cropped the rock out - not primarily to remove the rock but to place the fisherman within the rule of thirds. What I REALLY like is the delicate detail across the entire photo. I'm an NLP practitioner and photos that trigger multiple senses score highly with me). - what I mean here is it is a real feast for the eyes, in my minds eye I can imagine the sounds and smell the clean air and it gives me the feelings of being on vacation. |

Great pic.
Personally I like it better with a tighter crop in portrait orientation. The tighter crop makes the person more of a focal point, and the portrait mode allows all of the foreground and sky details to be kept at the same time. It also has the benefit of being more of an "accepted" format (but that shouldn't really matter) and it makes the "leading lines" in the image a bit stronger. All just my opinion.... attached is a quick edit. |
