Nice quiet and peacefull photo. A couple of things could help it. Try cropping the image, then adjust the Curves or Levels to get more detail and color, and finally a bit of sharpening. Here is an example, there are all sorts of things that can be done, it is really subjective and in the eye of the artist as to what works best. My sharpen is a bit much so please don't pick on it

I like the nice curved line of the shoreline to the right of the frame. You did a good job of including that in the frame. It leads the eyes around and thru the image up to the line of trees that naturally point and lead the eyes down to the horizon.
The boat is balanced rather nicely by the line of trrees and the mast of the boat lends a nice vertical element.
You left plenty of space for the boat to sail into so once again you did a very nice job on that aspect aswell.
The reflection of the boat adds a nice touch also.
Other than being a tad bit dark, which RoyL addressed a bit with his re-post, I think you did a very good job!

Lightening a tad to see a bit more details on the bank as well as on the boat were my first thoughts. Such as what RoyL has shown. Very cool capture.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I have recently purchased a copy of photoshop elements 7 so will follow your advice RoyL and have a play with the levels. I was quite happy with the shot compisition and felt the balance was good, so am going to enter it into my local camera club compitition. Thanks again for the great comments.
