Default tree on ledge

Photobucket

Exposure Time: 0.0010 s (1/1000)

Aperture: f/5.6

ISO Equiv.: 100

i thought this was kinda of a kewl angle for a picture of the lake and trees.

was it too much of an angle though? should i have focused more on the water than the trees or is it good the way it is?

thanks

I think the angle is fine, works reallywell in fact and you composition is great. I feel the sky is a little over exposed. It might have been better to cast the trees in total silhouette and get a great blue colour to the sky.

Hi my first post this so be gentle please.

Nice photo but my question is about the over exposed sky.
This is my pet hate I am struggling with & from this photo is it on account of a lot of dark colour from the tree that the camera compensated the exposure if so how would you over come this.

Expose on the sky then re compose the shot ??

Thanks Ian

I agree with Naidie, the angle is good, so is composition, the sky could do with more colour to it. I think the lake seems a bit flat, too.
The trees create a nice diagonal lead into the picture. Yet, I feel like reaching out and pushing aside the little tree on the right of the picture in order to see more of the lake.

UK GSER, you can do it in one of two ways, fill flash or High Dynamic Range Imagery (hereafter HDRI)

Fill flash is just that, you strobe to fill the foreground subjects with light, it works but its not always the look you are after.

HDRI can be both rewarding and frustrating, mainly because of the time spent trying to stop the shots over contrasted and "fake" look from getting away from you.

With HDRI you take several exposures of the same scene, usually with the bracketing feature of your camera, and most importantly a tripod.

3 exposures is the minimum to get any decent tonal range, I usually shoot 5 so I get a nice spread at -2, -1, 0, +1 and +2 you can shoot as many as you want but I get good results with 5.

You then import then into something like Photomatrix or Dynamic Photo HDR the latter being my weapon of choice. Both software tools have good online tutorials and produce some interesting results (reactions are usually "that's cool" to "man that looks weird").

http://www.flickr.com/photos/cabe_be...7613297811105/ to have a look at some comparisons between a single exposure (taken from the 0 exposure position) and the tone mapped image.
