I have been going through some pictures I took last fall. This is one of my favorites.
I was driving through the country when I saw the combine and took a couple shots. I would like to know what you think about the exposure and color saturation. Thanks Audra ![]() Canon Rebel Xsi Exposure: 1/4000 Aperture: F/5.6 Focal Length: 55mm ISO: 200

I see some competing points of interest here. The grass along the edge of the field is clearly in the foreground, but my eye keeps moving back to the combine itself. I don't think that guy would mind much if you took a few steps out in the field to get a different angle of the harvester. Or, if you're feeling really brave, let him make another round, get right next to the unharvested wheat, and crouch down in the stubble. When the combine turns and heads toward you again, you'll be in a perfect spot to get a unique harvest shot right over the top of the just-cut stubble.
Then get the heck out of there before the wind blows chaff all over your shiny new XSi.

The color saturation looks good to me. As for exposure, the sky seems blown out, but this kind of reminds me of the dryness and heat of summer. If that's not what you were after I'd say shoot in Raw and see what else you can do with the exposure to get a more interesting or colorful sky. If you like the exposure of the sky I'd say crop some of it out.
One other thing, you can't tell from the image size you posted, but somethings probably out of focus at f/5.6 (either the grass of the combine). I think for this type of shot you might want a large depth of field. farming shots are really cool

EOBeav - thanks for the angle suggestions. It's hard to see from the angle of the shot, but there is a ditch full of water in the grass. I wasn’t too worried about getting up close & personal with the combine. My son was working in the harvest and I had planned to go to the fields he was at and take lots of shots. Unfortunately my schedule changed and I wasn’t able to. This was a definite learning experience to work with what you have at the moment.
Ericw - If you look at a larger version, the combine is a bit out of focus. I think the exif data of 1/4000 & f/5.6 screams newbie. Ha ha Thanks for your help Audra
