Default The river runs thru...

Took this shot today. I find it kinda boring but my eye keeps running around in circles.
Is it the lack of color? Lack of comp? What do you think??

I do not find it boring at all but a litle distracting.
Too much information (Part of a fence botom left, part road top left part road center right and main course river and bridge center).
I would have croped out everything distracting around the river and bridge, it might have helped out.

Thank you for sharing.

I think there is definately a lack of color, but it's winter, so that is as it should be. I do see your point about running around in circles. But you know what? That makes the composition kinda cool in my brain! Neat shot!

Overall I like it, but I'd loose the fence at the bottom of the shot, and either crop the rest of the fence out or at least delete the road sign. Increasing the color saturation a bit might be nice too.

Thanks Barabe, I trimmed all that stuff and what was left is blurry. But you are absolutly right about the end of the spillway on the right side. I didnt even notice it. zzzz

Thank You Navcom. If I didn't run in circles, I'd have no place to go.

Thanks Preitz, I trimmed the fence but then I kinda missed it after. And YES that stupid road sign. Its a freaking 25mph zone and if you cant see that the road turns at that speed, You deserve to go over the deep end. (thats a shot for another day)

I agree with the rest, the fence is just too much for the picture.

If you can retake it, i think position the camera higher, cut the fence and get more of the sky, should look better.

Another thing is because it is a snow shot, there is a lot of glare coming from the snow, making the picture look busy. Try to reduce those glare.

I heard that there are special technique in taking snow picture, maybe you can check it out.

For me I'm from a tropical country, no opportunity to take snow picture so have do not have much info on this.

Thanks NIX74, I paned to the rite for a shot then the spillway was to much, its 400 ft long.
I under exposed the snow had nice detail but the tunnel was to dark. I'll' wait for a nice clear blue sky, tilt up and try to get the sun behind the hole next. The other side is hard to get because of the angle also.

Just two suggestions for next time -- try taking a white balance reading when composing this shot, I'm not sure your camera has a manual white balance, but working with snow it helps alot.

Another thing is to maybe take this shot when it is darker out and use a shutter speed anywhere between 1/10 and 1/4 secs to get the silky water effect (if that's something you like, of course )

Thankz Chris, That was my first objective, the silky effect. No tripod, the elements, lenght of day, hunger, standing in/on that snow bank..... took their toll on me. I was caput.
I just finished reading on setting the W/B and should get back there now.

Yeah wait till magic hour around sunset (or maybe sunrise depending on the angle of the sun, but I'm not one for getting up early), and then use a slow shutter speed to get the silky water.
