Default Does this work?

This shot was taken on a hiking trail at Table Mountain, Cape Town, South Africa.

Very overcast day and while in the gorge I took this picture. I like it myself but I'm not certain what the general view may be.

I have applied some sharpening and have trimmed it to the 16:9 ratio.

Shooting information:
TV: 1/40
AV: 22
ISO 100

Really looking for to some crit on this!

On my monitor it is way too dark, (yes, it is calibrated),, I would like to be able to see more details of the plants etc. I'm sure there are lots of details we are missing because it is so dark too.

Thanks for the feedback dave

I was a little concerned that the right quarter of the pic was too dark and didn't play a part in telling a story.

My idea to the pic was more to convey the mood created by the overcast conditions than actually do a detailed representation of the scenery.

Thank you once more for the feedback, I will try and learn from your comments

I get what mood you are trying to convey and it is working but the overall image(apart from being to dark) just feels a bit to "squashed".

It's too dark for me too. There's hints of red & green in there & the compo might be good, but there's no way of telling.
Is AV22 equivalent to F22? That's too small an aperture for pretty much anything?

I can see what you are trying to achieve but the right side of the image is so completely underexposed that it is impossible to bring out any detail. I think it would have been interesting in a portrait orientation which would focus and maybe lead the viewer into the mist. The f22 aperture is way to small but if the lighting was too bright to give the mood you wanted you could try a ND filter or just increase the shutter speed. When you get the composition right, be sure to take multiple shots with different exposure settings and check your histogram to make sure you have a good exposure. With a good exposure you can do many things in PP but badly under or overexposed will kill the shot.

Hi everybody

Firstly, apologies for the late reply, my monitor died on me and I had to borrow a very old CRT until my monitor is replaced.

Thank you for all the comments, it is all about learning for me. The too dark comment is an overwhelming response and I will learn from it.

Thanks loons49 for the comment about pp on over and under exposed images, great tip!

Here's the lighter pic taken from the 3 bracketed shots

Much better for me! I still would love to see this as a portrait orientation. Can you selectively bring up the exposure on the right side just a touch more? For me, the now visible hikers add to the shot.

If you shot RAW, you could have made an even lighter jpg to lighten the right side more, then blended the two jpgs using a layer mask.
