Default Sunset Glory

This is my first time posting in here. I would like some feed back on getting the "perfect" shot of the sunsets. I've taken sunset pictures a thousand times and it just seams like I'm missing something. They don't seam as clear as I would like. I am using a tripod. I have a Canon Sx 40 and still learning the camera. Thanks

F-stop f/7.1
Exposure 1/1000
ISO 800
Focal Lenght 23mn

I like the colors in the picture, but I'd like to see more! Perhaps moving the horizon line down a bit to get more of the sky?

Drop your exposure to get better color in the sky. I'd try ISO 200 @ 1/500, which is down a stop from your exposure. (Did you have a reason to shoot at ISO800 and 1/1000 sec?)

Find a more interesting foreground. Silhouettes can work fine, but they need to be interesting silhouettes. Otherwise you'll probably need to light your foreground subject to be able to see it.
