A winter shot I personally like very much. Tell me what you think, what could be better and give it a grade. Thanks!

In my opinion this would benefit from use of a circular polariser to get the sky a deeper blue. Some of the snow on the branches also looks a bit blown out so could possibly benefit from some recovery if it was shot in RAW and you have access to Photoshop Elements or similar.
Hers's an example of what I am trying to say here..

TBH this shot is not at all eye-catching for the viewer. The way you felt about the scene & the way it comes across to the viewer of the photo is completely different.
Go back to the basic rules: your composition is weak, your subject is weak, there's nothing that draws the eye. If you think that's a good backdrop then put a subject in it. |

Didn't mean it to be harsh. I meant it in all sincerity. And, I don't think we all doubt ourselves. Sometimes I do have an element I'm not sure about, and that's when I'll post on DPS critique forums (or elsewhere) to solicit some informed dialogue about it. But when I'm truly pleased with one of my images, I don't need anybody else's opinions.

I don't really like the composition. I wonder if you could have gotten a better shot by climbing another tree and getting a better angle. Either that or backing up so as to get more of the tree in.
I also think the snow looks like white blotches rather than having the detail you want. Maybe if you underexposed a little bit, you wouldn't have the problem with the snow. |
