Learning with new camera. What do you see in this picture? How does it make you feel? Suggestions?

This looks like a great picture to me.

Surprising that it has no comments.

Gives me a wistful feeling......

Looks like a very relaxing scene. When you blur the water, it usually gives that effect. I do feel like I want to see a little wider view so I can see more of the falls. I usually prefer waterfall shots where it looks more like the water is coming towards you, but that composition is not always possible.

I would normally not use an aperture smaller than around f/13, as that's where diffraction can kick in, which can degrade sharpness. Still, a good shot overall.

Thanks for your feedback and your time. That would be really cool to get a shot looking up at the falls. I will have to try that sometime! I will experiment more with the aperture.

Thanks Aldonis for your response. No wrong answers on how it makes you feel. I was just wondering what that picture does for people.

Lovely photo, captured the movement of the water and have the static parts nice and sharp

f/11 to f/16 would have given you a LOT sharper image. f-thirty something is just too much.

Thanks Roger...I am enjoying the contrast between the small streams of water drops and the smokey/foggy effect. I appreciate your time and thoughts.

EOBeav, I appreciate that thought. I will give that a try. I felt the f36 drove me to that small section of the falls that I was looking for, but maybe not.

For my purposes anyway, an aperture smaller than f/16 doesn't work. For scenes like this, I generally stay in the f/11 to f/16 range. Another thought: Since you don't have a lot of depth in this particular image, I might even try f/7.1 just for the heck of it. That's the 'sweet spot' for a lot of lenses, and the aperture at which you're going to get the best sharpness. That's going to speed up your shutter speed, though, which might be ok in this instance. Maybe even preferable, since you have a fairly blown out area there in the middle.
