Hello all - would love to get some feedback on this image. I have the luxury of returning to this spot whenever and plan to return several times - it can look beautiful during a sunset.

Was this shot handheld? The trees with the light behind them don't look that crisp? There's a screaming lack of subject too. Whilst I can understand that this is a beautiful restful place for you, that's your experience. It's not an experience that's conveyed strongly by the picture? It's similar to looking at shots of other people's kids, to the parents they're lovely shots of the kids, to anyone else they're just kids...
How about making 50 origami boats with different coloured paper & launching them at the same time to make a subject? If you did it at sunset then blue, orange & red boats at a low angle might look good? |

Thanks for the feedback. No i used a tripod for this - i don't think i used my shutter release so maybe i was a bit clumsy in pushing the shutter a bit hard or something. T
This isn't really a beautiful/restful place for me - it is just a local reservoir. I appreciate the suggestion of 50 origami boats. There is a lack of subject in the photo - at the moment, photography for me is just trying to learn how to use my camera. But i'll throw that one back at you - why don't you do it and post the result up? After all it's your idea. |

I like this picture. I do how ever think it would benifit from a crop of about 30% from the right side I would also crop from the bottom up to the bottom of the reflection of the last tree and from the top down to maintain the rule of thirds. Hope this helps

You do have a nice scene there, but I do think it would help if you had a focal point like a boat in the water, birds flying in the air or even origami boats. If you could work some foreground interest into the shot, that will help draw the viewer in. However, that presents a more difficult task with getting the sky and foreground both correctly exposed.

If you don't have the elements to add you can play with what you have.
Hue Saturation plus gradient plus brush with color sampled from the sky. Now the dark tones hold you in and lead you to the distant horizon. Last edited by Barry Jackson; 01-24-2012 at 05:43 AM. |
