Default Avenue of Honour

Hey guys, only picked up a camera for the first time about a fortnight ago - for taking snaps shots whilst on holidays with the family. However I quickly realised that I enjoyed taking photo's quite alot.

On the way home (about a 90min drive - that I managed to spread out over 6 hours due to stopping everywhere to take photo's) I snapped this - standing in the middle of a rather busy highway. (The standing in the middle of a highway, is also the reason why it is slightly off centre)

I have sharpened it a little in Lightroom, as well as messed around with Split Toning.

Exif data

Camera Sony DSLR-A390
Exposure 0.006 sec (1/160)
Aperture f/11.0
Focal Length 18 mm
ISO Speed 100

Hey good concept, and this shot could really work. But for me it's a little flat. I would like to see this same shot at sunrise/sunset or even during fog/rain if possible. But i understand that it was just a spur of the moment shot and you were hardly going to stay there for the whole day. hehe.
Good to hear you have caught the photography bug.

I rather like how the tree trunks split the field into a dotted line that mirrors the one on the road. Your composition is completely centered and extremely static, which may or may not be what you were going for (if not, consider placing the point of convergence off-center). I think the picture would be improved by adding definition to the clouds - maybe bring down the brightness and push contrast up a bit.

I agree with the others, nice shot.
I would have taken this shot from lower (kneeling/lying on the ground) and placed the road fade point at ~ lower 1/3. I would have taken 2 exposures (one for the sky, one for the foreground) to combine in post or tried a GND if I had thought of it (I generally don't).

I think tweaking the levels would help the colours a bit...you might be able to get more definition from the sky. As far as composition I would do the same as sk66 but it's too late for that now would it be worth taking another drive to catch this in the golden hours fro some better colours and composition... I would say yes... I think you have the eye for it and it's worth producing some magic out of you
