Default Trees at dusk

So i shot this a few years back, really liked it, I think i did a decent job of silhouette in this one. I feel like maybe this should have been shot more like f/8 just because some of the trees further back seem soft, but I cannot decide if this takes away from anything or not...

No post in any way so i think if i had access to some post software i would maybe deepend the colors a bit, they seem ok but kinda bland.

Thoughts on those two points?

Nice mood shot. Mood shots to me don't need to tell a story or have a center of interest.

There is a resting point for the eye with the orange area in the bottom.

I like the colors just the way they are.

You can download several free photo editing programs. Some are Gimp, paint.net, and hornil stylepix. There are others that aren't as extensive as these.

What's the exif? Depending on the lens used I might have chosen to go with hyperfocal settings other than just a smaller f/stop...But as is I don't think the "softness" is problematic.
For me it's just too busy.

As for post you can always get GIMP.

for some reason the EXIF did not transfer, and while i can check EXIF via chrome I feel dumb but im not sure how to check it just browsing photos on my HDD.

SK66 explain what you mean by a hyperfocal length, im unsure. This is a non VR version of the kit 18-55.

To check Exif from a Windows folder:

Right click on photo, select Properties, Details and scroll down a bit.

Or download Opanda EXIF reader, a small unobtrusive freeware utility.

I like the silhouette but for me it's like it's too zoomed in.

I think this is an example of a picture that doesn't need a focal point or a subject... It sets the mood perfectly... Perhaps a bit too busy... I wonder if using a shallower DOF would haze of the small branches and make it less busy!

So the impression I am getting is that in this shot at least, nothing is inherently wrong, other people might have just shot it a touch differently to THEIR liking, which I am fine with! Thanks for the input guys!

There's a free application, Faststone Image Viewer, that's really good at holding onto EXIF data even when the picture has been edited. I find it really useful.
