This was my fist real landscape with my new Canon T3. I think it's as good a shot as I've ever seen of the subject, but I'm a little biased! I'd like some honest feedback on it from the DPS community.

It is a great feeling to have a new camera and to have captured something that you feel is really good.
I don't want to be a downer but you asked for honesty. In your shot, the pier does not seem to be the focus of attention. Your scene seems to be as much about the sunset as it is about the pier. The details on the pier are lost in a lot of black tones. On a positive note, you can and will do much better in time. Just for comparison, I went to google and clicked on the images tab at the top. I then put in Yorktown Pier in the search box. There were at least a half dozen images that really captured the pier. Most were in dramatic light much as you had to work with but most showed more of the pier and at a more severe angle. A couple were even of the pier from a much greater distance. As long as you like what you did, that is the most important thing. I think you can do much better though. |

This is a very good example on how to use negative space. Personally, I would prefer to see clearer picture with the pier's reflection in the water by maybe moving to the right more but still maintain the current ratio with the "negative" space.
