Hello, this shot was taken in Boracay at about 9-10am. The reason why it looked warm is because I played with the white balance.
Two questions, is the white balance just right, or should i have just used another setting? And do you think I could have gotten a better composition, like more sky and lesser sand or the opposite? Thanks. Camera: Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 Lens: Lumix 14-45mm ISO: 100 Aperture: f/7.1 Exposure: 1/320 sec. Last edited by calvin_ryan; 01-11-2012 at 12:25 PM. |

The horizon tilt is quite distracting for me. I don't think the bits of leaves at top and left are helping you out. Since the sky isn't very interesting (though might be able to fix that in post), I'd consider cropping down from top and side. Though if you were to take this from further back and show more of the trees, that might work as well.

The color of the sky and water looks strange to me. I agree that the bits of vegetation in the top and left side of the are distracting and do not help to frame the shot. I also think the woman walking in the water is distracting, unless you are trying to show the guy checking her out. If so, then the boat is distracting. In other words, I don't think you should have both, because there is no apparent connection between the two. Since I don't know what you wanted to show in the shot, I can't recommend another composition.
Even though you took the shot fairly early in the morning, you still have a dynamic range issue, as some of the sand is blown out or on the verge of it. I think you're going to have to shoot RAW and/or bracket your shots so you can do an exposure blend or even HDR.

Color balance is unnaturally pink. It looks strange and unpleasant.
The guy has a torch or something behind him that looks like it's growing out of his head. The guy isn't particularly interesting. Seems like the foreground/subject doesn't grab my attention much and is kind of boring compared with the beautiful background. |

as for the second picture, i hope it will be better than the first one

Looks like two different images- the WB is much better and the horizon level however I like the sailboat more frame left to isolate from the clutter of the bamboo and help define more of the image story. TFS.

See above. The second image is much better. Can you crop/clone the torch too?

+2 - I would also like the boat further away from the bamboo, but this is much better.

at least this is an improvement lol...
yes its a different image. it was taken before i played with the WB. the cluttered bamboo is part of the main subject, shows that he sitting under a nipa hut like structure. thanks for your inputs

I like the exposure better in the second but I kind of liked the color in the first. The boat does need to be separated from the bamboo and that thing growing out of his head has got to go.
