Default Spreading ashes by outrigger canoe.

How are the colors in this image? I also wonder how people feel about the cropping. I cut out a lot of water. Any other feedback is also welcome.

I am not very sure about the subject smack right in the middle of the photo, not very catchy...

The subject is quite powerful and as such, a square crop with the canoe at the top of the image (upper third) with the ashes/flowers leading to them would aid the power of the image. This may also help on the colour question as well by removing more background grey/blue

I agree with MattG. The bottom 3/4 of the picture is excellent; the top is slightly distracting.

Great work on the color and clarity of the ashes/flowers. Overall, a great scene!

Thank you. The square cropping isn't something I thought of. I tried it here. I think it possibly does look better. Personally I'm attached to the landscape at the top of the image, because it communicates a specific place to me, Kaneohe Bay. But that grey sky isn't pretty. Maybe the grey sky is fitting to the mood of the photo though.

I think the relatively bright sky has washed out the colors in the top third of the image. A graduated neutral density filter is made to help offset that.

I would actually like to see more of the water and flowers in the foreground because they help tell the story and lead my eye to the outrigger. I would also like to see this in landscape mode because the portrait mode feels confining on the sides.
