Default Transamerica building

Here's a shot I got while I was in San Francisco in October. I'm mainly looking for feedback on composition, i.e. is the camera too low, is the building too centered, are the leading lines of the light poles ineffective; as well as processing, i.e. is it too dark, not enough contrast, do you notice any artifacting on your monitor, etc? Thanks for the input.

Exposure: 10 second
Aperture: f/13
Focal Length: 50mm
ISO100
Camera: Canon 40D

I like the foreground. I just wish the pyramid stood out more. Maybe lighten it some? Then the foreground lights won't be so dominant.

Yea you're right, the building doesn't stand out enough. I'll see if I can fix that and post. I'll put up a new version tomorrow if all goes well. Thanks!

Nice to see you posting again Corey. I will wait for your 'redo' and then critique, hopefully with the same quality as last time.

Hope all is well and you have had a good year

I'm on the same page as Krusty.

Looking forward to the updated edition.

Hey James, thanks for popping in here. I always appreciate your feedback. I haven't posted too much lately. I've been struck with an onslaught of excuses. I started feeling stuck with the 52 week portrait project after many discouraging weeks of portraits. I got to week 15 (posted on my flickr account) and decided to put things on hold while I seek a variety of models to work with and spend some time reading more about portraiture. I've been noticing a real lack of direction with my photography and I've been spending a lot of time contemplating what I'm wanting to photograph. I have some incredible ideas that I'll be working on really soon but I still lack a direction. I lack that look and feel to my photographs that distinguishes them as my own. If that makes sense. Well I got a bit carried away there. Didn't mean to stray that far off topic.

I played around a bit in photoshop. The changes are very subtle but still noticeable. Overall, I'm happier with this version more than the first version. I'm still not happy with one specific section in the photo but I don't want to draw attention to it in case if I'm the only one noticing.

Let me know what you all think. You can click on the photo to pull it up in flickr, then click on it again to view it against a dark background.

The second take on this makes an already good image better. Very nice. I really like the texture of the boardwalk in the foreground providing strong horizontal elements as the eye is led towards the vertical. The shapes, textures and light work to make this a very successful image to my eye. Nicely done.

I love that second image. The lights lead you right into the shot.

Thank you! I appreciate the feedback. When I went to San Francisco this was the shot that I most wanted to get. I spent a good couple hours on Pier 7 working different angles and what not. It was a lot of fun.
