I'm trying to figure out why you put the "expired" message in the foreground, but I don't see any connection between it and anything else in your shot.

While the rule of thirds is often useful, it is not there to be followed at all costs. The focal point should not be at 1/3 into the picture, certainly not in this shot. Many many great shots do not follow the rule of thirds, its there as a starting point and a guide, usually to stop rank amateurs from putting their subject right in the centre of every shot they take. I love the use of depth of field here, and I think it works well. As a concept I think it works... I would think of it as a 'practice shot' being honest. For the 'proper' shot I think you need more meaning behind it as krusty says. I would suggest same layout, but you need to find a rusty meter, in a run down part of town. That way the 'expired' works as a comment about the surroundings. |

+1 and the only other thing I notice (might be my eyes/computer) but the focus on the meter looks soft. But I like the shot and the feeling behind it

This would be great if someone were being towed or ticketed in the back ground, as it is it's just so so, but has potentialy if the right circumstances prevailed...
