Default Sunset

Hi new to the forums and to photography

Originally i wasn't planning on getting this shot when i left my house earlier. I rode down to the estuary to get some shots of the local birds but was only able to get one . Disappointed i went back home and on the way i came across this scene so i took out the camera and took some pictures. The only thing i dont like about it is the lack of a foreground. Besides the foreground what could i have done better.

One big disadvantage here is the lack of any clouds. They always add drama to a sunset photo. If you could have zoomed in on the horizon and given the picture a bit more subject matter, it would have helped.

Thanks for the input I really appreciate it.

Unfortunately we dont get many clouds around here or at least its overcast in the morning for a few hours and then its clear sky's all day.

For a photo like this of a sunset how can i include a subject or what can be a subject?

I love this question, I want the photographic equivalent of a monkey butler/assistant!
Don't forget that you can 'intervene' to make your own picture. For this shot you could maybe have floated out a paper boat as a subject or just chuck a rock in to make ripples perhaps.

I think if I were in that situation, I would look for an interesting tree or something to possibly use as a silhouette. I would also try to get some birds or boats on the water in the shot. Another thing to look for is something to provide a leading line into the image.

However, if there is no subject nearby you can use and there are no clouds, it makes it difficult to get a really good shot.
