Question Chimney Pot / Sky



I'm very new to photography and I'd like to know how I can improve my sky shots.

Meta: F/7.1 1/400 iso:100
Camera: Canon 1000D
Lens: Canon Ultrasonic EF 75-300

Welcome to DPS newbie.

As for improving your shots, at least for this one, I would have liked to have seen more of the roof. Seeing just the chimney without anything holding it up is kinda hard to grasp. I'd also like to see those dark blotches disappear which can be done in post processing.

With an aperture of f/7.1 it seems you shot this in "Auto" mode. To really improve, you should learn to get out of auto and use the manual or aperture priority mode. Learning your camera is the best way to becoming a better photographer. Reading some of the articles on this site, and applying them in the field will also help you a lot. Read an article about what you want to learn and then go out and apply it. Just take pics of what the article was about and only that for a day or a week until you have it down and go onto the next. Like they say; "Practice makes perfect."
