Composition isnt so hard once you understand the basics... The rule of thirds is the major one.
The eyes naturally tend to rest at the cross sections of 3rds... Here's you're image broken into 3rds... ![]() ...in this case none of the subjects exactly fall into the cross sections. Now look at the second crop... see how the majority of the subject lands at or very near these cross sections?

First of all, might I say it really is a lovely photo. Great DOF, I love the contrast, and texture.
![]() This is your 2nd crop with the 3rds grid applied, seeing that, how do you feel about the composition? Jump back to look at your un-gridded (what? it's a word, I swear, lol) version Where do you find your eyes moving as you look at the photo? Are they drawn to the subject first? If so, where do they go next? If not, where do they go? If not, what could you try differently? Compare they two crops you've made, the one from the original post, and this 2nd one... which do you find more visually compelling? Notice where your eyes fall on each image. I know I'm asking more questions than I'm answering, but you obviously have an eye, and I believe you know these answers. The best way to learn is to ask yourself these things. Eventually it will become second nature. This is sorta off subject, but I think it's a great reminder for artist's of all levels ![]()
