Default Holey Leaf

Holey Leaf

Took this in a rush, my most common complaint is that I never take my time. (two kids, one dog, etc.).

I like it but I'm not happy with it.

Any suggestions on how to improve the shot, and how to do better next time?

I guess it all really depends on what you are trying to show. To me, the leaves are too dark. To see more sun shining through the leaves would have been better.

One tip I can give you is to leave the kids and dog at home and take your time to experiment. Take several shots of your subject using different camera settings like ISO, Aperture, Shutter speed, etc. I have done this many times (except I don't have a dog and my daughter is grown and on her own) and found that out of the many exposures, I like one better than the other.

Or, get a shot of those same leaves from the opposite direction, with the sun to your back, gently illuminating your subject.
